Rocks In Your Shoes

Last night I got to see Emily West in concert at 12th and Porter in Nashville, TN.  Let me just say, this girl sings with every ounce of her spirit and every inch of her long blond hair.  The crowd was already warmed up by Kingbilly and Whitney Duncan when Emily took the stage at 10:00 p.m.  Her captivating vocals and enthusiastic delivery had the crowd singing along and following every note.  Her artistic performance allowed people to see the passion that drives what she does!

As a Capital Records recording artist, Emily stays closely connected to the Nashville community.  She actively promotes the arts, music and the people of Music City.  Tonight she is even hosting the Fashion for EveryBODY fashion show.  This event has been presented by the Eating Disorders Coalition of Tennessee (EDCT) for the last five years.  The fashion show honors local role models.  This uplifting experience is exactly the type of event Emily would choose to invest her time in!

One of the songs she sang in her set was her first release “Rocks In Your Shoes”.  The message of this song is for anyone that has to make a choice about how to react to life’s situations that come out of nowhere or are difficult to swallow.  In a town where everyone wants the same thing – to do music, sometimes people make it and you don’t.  You have the choice to either support them or get bitter; it is up to you!  When you hit a wall you can learn to climb or walk away.

I thought I would use Emily’s song to encourage all the dreamers out there in Nashville and anywhere for that matter to “keep on keeping on”.  I am going to include her lyrics.  I also attached her youtube video to the song title above.  When you start to lose hope, remember why you came here and keep going, no matter the adversities that may seem to wear you down!

Emily WestRocks In Your Shoes

So you had some bad luck, life sucks, can’t do nothing right
You took some wrong turns, got burned way too many times
And so you fall back with all that hurt that just don’t wanna heal

So then you do the, “Why me? This can’t be happening again
Hey, what’s the deal? Man, I can’t take much more of this”
You put your time in, paid your dues, believe me, I know how you feel

I guess you gotta make a choice when it hits the fan
You can get a little down or get a little mad
When there’s stones in the road only one thing to do
You gotta learn to walk with rocks in your shoes, come on!

I heard some good lies from bad guys making their mark
They did a drive by, bang bang, big hole in my heart
Needed a crash cart, CPR sister, I was fading fast

I had a poor me trophy, kept it on a shelf
Did the too proud, too cool to ask for any help
For when I gave in praying I only got one answer back
And he said

I guess you gotta make a choice when it hits the fan
You can get a little down or get a little mad
When there’s stones in the road only one thing to do
You gotta learn to walk with rocks in your shoes

It bitters like a weed if you let it grow
It’s gonna trip you up, yeah somewhere down the road
To get where you’re going there’s only one thing to do
You gotta learn to walk with rock’s in your shoes
You better learn to walk with rocks in your shoes, come on!

You gotta learn to walk
Keep on walking with rocks in your shoes
