Nashville is teeming with talented vocalists. Most singers in town come here thinking they will be the next Faith Hill or Garth Brooks. When that doesn’t happen overnight (or at all) they have to decide if they want to play a different part in the music industry or just head back home because their star may never shine on the walk of fame.
Instead of heading for the hills when your dreams don’t pan out quite like you thought, sometimes tweaking your vision a little can help you find your niche in a town you thought you already had figured out. For some vocalists, they can find their lasting groove as a demo singer.
For anyone new to Nashville or new to this part of the music industry, a demo singer is someone who sings a song that’s written for another artist. The demo is then sent the to artist for them to decide whether or not it is a song they want to sing/”cut” themselves. This technique is also used as a way of introducing songs to artists that have their songs written for them.
DEMOsinger.com is a website that features talented men and women dedicated to this craft. This site is free for users to search and free for a basic singer listing. All you need is a valid email account. Songwriters can find all singer listings in the singers section where professional demo singers and their samplers are available to audition for your demos. Singers can login to their account to update vocal descriptions and song samplers.
DEMOsinger.com recently announced the winners for Demo Singer of the year. Users of the site voted on the finalists and the following people came out on top:
Matt is from Batesville, Arkansas. He moved to Nashville several years ago and began singing demos. Matt sings an average of 10-15 demos per week, many of which have become cuts including the demo for Craig Morgan’s “Tough”. His influences include Haggard, Jones, Waylon, Travis Tritt, Randy Travis, and Ray Charles. Currently, Matt is part of the duo Tabor Dame.
