In Best Practices, Internet, Music Business, nashville, Ponder this, You HAVE to on March 23, 2012 at 6:00 am

blogBeing new to blogs and blogging I am still learning about all the “ins and outs”. I regularly get into discussions with friends about blogs and you would be surprised at how many people say, “I don’t blog.” They go on to tell me they don’t understand it, don’t know how, and that it scares them.

Not really sure where the fear comes from.  But usually when something is new to a person, the lack of knowledge about the topic tends to leave their conclusions based on hearsay and incorrect information.  Blogs, in their most primitive forms have been around since 1979.  That might seem impossible since the internet was only at its beginnings and wasn’t widely accessible then, but I am getting ahead of myself.  Lets talk about what a blog is. Gwyneth singing "Coming Home" at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards

This year, Nashville songwriters were up for Best Original Song in a motion picture for their work in Country Strong. Nashville’s own Tom Douglas, Hillary Lindsey and Troy Verges were nominated for their song, “Coming Home.” Kudos to being in the running, but the award went to Randy Newman for his work in Toy Story 3 (20 times nominated, 2-time winner).  The Academy Award for Best Original Song is one of the awards given annually to people working in the motion picture industry by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). Just remember the last lines Christina and be brave.  The rockets are blazing for sure, but it isn’t the kind of fireworks her publicist was hoping for just minutes after Christina Aguilera’s Super Bowl performance.  But then again, look what the Taylor-Kanye fiasco did for both of them… Without jumping on too many bandwagons or picking up too many stones at once here people, just remember – it happens.

Singers make mistakes, when is the last time Read the rest of this entry »

“Help!  I have lost my spark, my zen, my reason for being?  Creativity is gone and living in someone else’s soul.  I haven’t painted in weeks.  I don’t write songs anymore.  Why sing a song that no one listens to.  Photography, what’s that?!”

Sound familiar, not feeling productive lately?  Don’t worry, your passion isn’t permanently gone.  Read the rest of this entry »

Curiosity leads to problem solving. This need to find, understand, and define life is the main motivation of many scientists. In its development as wonder or admiration, it is generally curiosity that makes a human being want to become an expert in a field of knowledge.   Dr. Ben Dean of the University of Pennsylvania says this, “Curiosity is associated with intelligence and problem-solving ability.  Read the rest of this entry »

Curiosity Might Have Killed the Cat, But It Makes a Musician

“The important thing is not to stop questioning.  Curiosity has its own reason for existing.  One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality.  It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day.  Never lose a holy curiosity,” Albert Einstein.  This “holy curiosity” might have killed the cat, but it is the very fiber of creative musicians.  Read the rest of this entry »

Always The Hours

The co-founder and chief executive officer of Apple Inc, Steve Jobs says this, “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.  Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking.  Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice.  And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.  They somehow already know what you truly want to become.  Everything else is secondary.” Steve Jobs previously served as CEO of Pixar Animation Studios and is now a member of the Walt Disney Company’s Board of Directors – he seems to successfully handle the hours.

The trappings of time can be a formidable opponent or a cherished friend.  The hours of life can be spent: Read the rest of this entry »

2010: Happy New Year

In Life Around Me, Ponder this, You HAVE to on January 1, 2010 at 1:02 pm

“Another fresh new year is here
Another year to live!
To banish worry, doubt, and fear,
To love and laugh and give!

This bright new year is given me
To live each day with zest
To daily grow and try to be
My highest and my best!

I have the opportunity
Once more to right some wrongs,
To pray for peace, to plant a tree,
And sing more joyful songs!”
