NBC’s “The Voice” is a refreshing and welcomed addition to the current reality talent show competition generation. The show kicks off its maiden voyage with tonight’s season opener where four professional “coaches” of the show are faced with the challenge of stacking each of their team’s decks with 8 vocalists that will go head-to-head this season – ultimately fighting to be crowned The Voice.

Chris Young topped the country charts last week with his number one hit Gettin’ You Home. With this tune, songwriters Kent Blazy, Chris Young and Cory Batten wrote music made for loving and it is peaking just in time for the winter months when everyone starts to stay home and settle in with the ones they love.  Songwriter Kent Blazy established himself early on with Garth Brooks cuts like If Tomorrow Never Comes and Ain’t Goin’ Down (‘Til the Sun Comes Up). Cory Batten currently writes for Kent’s publishing company and recently wrote She Wouldn’t Be Gone which Blake Shelton has taken up the charts as well. Read the rest of this entry »

World's LARGEST Number 1 Party

no1_2009Yesterday I had the chance to attend the WORLD’S LARGEST #1 PARTY hosted by Nashville Songwriters Association International.  Once a year Nashville’s music industry gathers together at NSAI under a big white tent, complete with food and drinks, to honor and celebrate the songwriters of the past year that have written a number one hit.  As we see the decline of cds and the increase of mp3s, we find people really have to write #1s to get cut by an  artist.  Well, these people have done it!
