Just now coming down from the musical high that The International Folk Alliance Conference in Memphis delivered, we bring you a conference highlight – Mary Gauthier (pronounced GOH-shay).  Let’s start with a quick wiki bio to open you up to who Mary is; at least briefly in black and white…

Gauthier was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. Given up at birth by a mother she never knew, Gauthier was adopted by an Italian Catholic couple in Thibodaux, Louisiana. At age 15, she ran away from home, and spent the next several years in drug rehabilitation, halfway houses, and living with friends; she spent her 18th birthday in a jail cell. World's LARGEST Number 1 Party

no1_2009Yesterday I had the chance to attend the WORLD’S LARGEST #1 PARTY hosted by Nashville Songwriters Association International.  Once a year Nashville’s music industry gathers together at NSAI under a big white tent, complete with food and drinks, to honor and celebrate the songwriters of the past year that have written a number one hit.  As we see the decline of cds and the increase of mp3s, we find people really have to write #1s to get cut by an  artist.  Well, these people have done it! Mickey Roo's Idol Contest: Three Years Strong

Tucked just 20 miles south of the heart of downtown Nashville is a barbecue treasure – Mickey Roos.  This Texas Style BBQ restaurant is the perfect combination of country music, good food and a friendly atmosphere.  Mickey has been running this place long enough in Franklin to welcome a regular crowd full of characters and laughter.  It is a place where you go in and you will inevitably know someone, see your favorite waitress, and get to chat with Buddy behind the bar.  Did I mention the Texas BBQ rocks!?
