The Voice: It Will Blow You Away

NBC’s “The Voice” is a refreshing and welcomed addition to the current reality talent show competition generation. The show kicks off its maiden voyage with tonight’s season opener where four professional “coaches” of the show are faced with the challenge of stacking each of their team’s decks with 8 vocalists that will go head-to-head this season – ultimately fighting to be crowned The Voice.

The concept of the show is genius – take the smoke and mirrors, autotuners, lipstick, high heels, age limit, and dress sizes out of the equation and all you are left with is the voice.

Rocks Aren’t The Only Things That Roll On Music Row

Sunday night we celebrated the champions of country music with the 45th Academy of Country Music Awards.  This celebration came on the heels of a turbulent week on Music Row – where rocks aren’t the only things that roll.  Talk around town is that ASCAP let 6 employees go, Joe Galante retires from Sony Music Nashville, and Disney decided to shut the doors of Lyric Street.

CRS After Hours

The 2010 Country Radio Seminar is off and running.  Last night, after a day of interviews, showcases, and industry discussions, the attendees of the seminar made their way to CRS After Hours at The Bridge.  After hours, The Bridge becomes more than a 4th floor glass structure connecting the hotel and public parking garage.  It is in this bar/lounge that industry veterans, hopefuls and wannabes stand on their musical clouds of wishful thinking and dream of what life would be life if we could all have a full time career in the music business that featured longevity, integrity, and some really good music; and yes – money!
